What to Look for in an AdWare AntiSpyware

Everywhere you look there are reminders that your computer is at risk. You see ads on television, in magazines and on your computer that tell you how many different kinds of computer viruses are out there, how they can infiltrate your hard drive and what horrible things they can do to your files if left unchecked.

At any given time, these viruses, Adware, and Spyware can delete, destroy, slow down, or steal your data and ruin a perfectly good computer. So, it’s incredibly important to know what you need to look for in good AdWare and Spyware software.

Good AdWare Anti-Spyware software does a number of things for your computer. The most obvious and prevalent thing it will do is remove anything from your hard drive that doesn’t belong there. Almost every program out there will do this, but you need to find one with a deep, thorough scan that will ensure nothing slips past. This means that it not only scans recent files and activity but your registry, deleted files, and system files, including old, fragmented sections of files that are no longer in use. Malicious software can be hidden anywhere on your hard drive and the scan needs to pick it all up.

Another good things that Anti-Spyware and AdWare software needs to do is to update its definitions constantly. Free programs and poorly written software will often only be updated once every month and even then, the definitions might not be as up to date as they need to be. If a new piece of Adware is released, you want your defenses to know about it as soon as possible and the only way to do this is to have it updated at least weekly and hopefully daily.

Another very important task that your Anti-Spyware and AdWare software needs to accomplish is protection against anything invading your computer in the first place. While old malware removal software focused on getting rid of anything that got through, today’s software focuses more intently on ensuring nothing gets through in the first place. To do this, it needs to scan every file you access as you access it, and ideally without slowing down the computing process by too much.

It also needs to scan websites you are about to visit to ensure they are not on blacklists or don’t contain suspicious activity or code that could cause problems. Additionally, the software should scan email constantly to be sure it doesn’t contain anything suspicious or potentially hazardous.

Good Anti-Spyware and AdWare will do everything it needs to keep out software that does anything that could be construed as negative to your computer. It updates frequently, scans thoroughly and checks everything you do as you do it so that there are no problems to start with. It might seem like a small thing, but having the right protection for your computer can save you a great deal of time and misery in the long run.
